Hiroshige Utagawa (1797-1858) according to - Sudden downpour in Shono, Japan - Print of the series of 53 relays of the Tokaido- Size of the print : 26 x 39cm + the frame , period : 1960's - Hiroshige shows here the sudden and violent character of this summer rain that falls, obliquely, on two groups of characters. We see them scattering in opposite directions. A peasant runs down the slope, preceded by a figure sheltered under an umbrella, while travellers and palanquin bearers climb the hill.
