Hiroshige shows here the sudden and violent character of this summer rain that falls, obliquely, on two groups of characters. We see them scattering in opposite directions. A peasant runs down the slope, preceded by a figure sheltered under an umbrella, while travellers and palanquin bearers climb the hill.
