Flemish school circa 1650, with Daniel SEGHERS (1590-1661) and Erasmus QUELLINUS (1607-1678).
The divine motherhood of Mary in a floral cartouche.
Oil on canvas.
59,5 x 48,5 cm
Small splinters in the upper part, superficial cracks and repainted. Antique backing.
Wooden frame and gilded stucco from the 19th century decorated with a net of pearls and acanthus leaves.
SEGHERS and QUELLINUS collaborate together regularly and create some trompe l'oeil compositions underlined by garlands of flowers or fruit scraps. This painting is to be compared with the one kept in the Petit Palais (ground floor, room 29) and attributed to Daniel SEGHERS (known as the Jesuit of Antwerp): "Virgin with child in a wreath of flowers".
