Italian school of the 17th century, according to GIAMBOLOGNA (1529-1608).
Venus Urania or allegory of Astronomy, model created in 1573. Bronze with brown patina
H: 35 cm
Melting accidents
This bronze test takes up one of Giambologna's most appreciated and reproduced models, that of the allegory of Astronomy. Accompanied by an armillary sphere, an attribute peculiar to this discipline, which is sketched at her feet, the female figure is represented in strong contrapposto. This beautifully crafted piece pays tribute to the original by Giambologna, created in 1573, thanks to which the sculptor had reached the apogee of representations of the naked female body.
The curious density, the extreme lightness and the important casting accidents are probably due to the presence of large quantities of tin in the alloy of this bronze.
