NOTE A modest employee of the Bibliothèque Nationale, Charles Guilloux is a self-taught artist who critics of the time equated with the Symbolist movement. From 1891 onwards, his works were successfully received at the exhibitions of the Société des artistes indépendants, and soon afterwards at the Impressionist and Symbolist events of the Le Barc de Boutteville gallery.
