Part of the living room composed of a two-seater sofa and two chairs.
Elm frame on curved legs, original black paint, partial gilding, painted decoration, on the cape, of a gadroon cup, busts of chimera and foliage. Cane seats. Small scales.

Circa 1805/1810.
Jean-Joseph Chapuis lived from 1765 to 1864. The present model is the first design of a lightweight laminated and folded chair. Examples of this model, which represents a milestone in the history of design, are kept in the Pinakothek der Moderne in Munich, the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein or the Victoria & Albert Museum in London.

Royal Museums of Art and History (Brussels) has a copy of a chair stamped "wardrobe chair", bequeathed by I. & H. Godtschalcm in 1915.
