[Album of drawings] [Enigmas]
A collection of drawings-enigmas, circa 1830.
A small volume in folio, half beige cloth, tobacco-coloured paper plates (contemporary binding)
Dimensions: 18.5 x 22.5 cm.
A charming collection of 56 drawings-enigmas in brown ink, certainly intended for children's education. The game had to consist in identifying the historical scene depicted. A notebook at the beginning of the collection identifies each enigma: it contains scenes from ancient, biblical, medieval, French history, etc. from Moses to the knight of Assas.
Provenance: Apollonie de la Rochelambert (1803-1893), then by descent until today.
