[WHISPERING]. Historical essays on the life of Marie-Antoinette, Queen of France, born Archduchess of Austria, November 2, 1755, decorated with her portrait, and written on several manuscripts in her own hand. Versailles, chez la Montensier, Hôtel des Courtisanes (1790). 2 parts of [2]-124 and [2]-142 pages, long-grained red morocco, gold lace on the covers, gold edges (slightly backbound). Original edition decorated with a portrait of Marie-Antoinette and 6 light figures out of text engraved on copper and unsigned. This pamphlet, in which the Queen is openly blamed for her intrigues and for the evil she was supposed to do to France, was written at the request of the Duke of Orleans. Some handwritten annotations of the time and small marginal stains. (Gay II, 170-71, indicates only 5 engravings).
