Jean Gabus (1908-1992), Swiss ethnologist and museologist, he was curator of the Museum of Ethnography of Neuchâtel from 1945 to 1978, professor and director of the Institute of Ethnology of the University of Neuchâtel until 1974. During his career, he took part in or directed some fifteen research and collection missions in the Far North and the Sahara. From the 1960s onwards, at the independence of the West African countries, he became involved as an adviser and consultant, planning numerous national museums and carrying out the one in Dakar.
