A rare silver gilt Torah Ark key
Pesaro, Italy, 1782
The inscription mentions that this key was offered by Solomon, son of Samuel Montebarrocci, in 1782. Ark keys were kept by the “Gabbai” (warden) of the synagogue and were handed over to a particularly respected member of the community for the opening of the Torah Ark prior to the Torah reading.
