An important silver Kiddush cup and cover
Lemberg region, circa 1770
This highly ornamented silver Kiddush cup and cover documents Jewish life in contemporary Lemberg. Its body is surrounded with three figurative scenes : the blessing on wine (kiddush), Grace after Meals (birkat ha-mazon) and the Havdalah ceremony at the conclusion of the Sabbath. The scenes also reveal many details regarding the costumes and headgear that were worn by Jews during this period.
