Music of P. J. Béranger's songs containing the most used ancient and modern tunes. Paris, Perrotin, 1834. In-8 (22.5 x 13 cm). Demi-basane, title gilt on the back. Period binding. 272pp. 4f.; complete. One engraved title vignette.
First edition of this collection of scores of ancient and modern tunes on which P. J. De Béranger (1780-1857), French poet, wrote many songs. Born and lived in Paris, attentive and sensitive to all the political events of his time, Béranger became, with his songs, the spokesman for the feelings and suffering of the French. His verses, which expressed regret for the Napoleonic era that had just passed and which had him imprisoned on several occasions, were much appreciated by the generation trained on the barricades of the July Revolution (27, 28, 29 July 1830). Many of these songs have a satirical flavour, the texts of which appear in the musical scores that make up the volume. - Pleasantly exemplary, solid and well-preserved volume. Slightly faded spine. Inside quite fresh, some marginal freckles. In good condition.
