Saint John Nepomucene in ivory carved in the round. The saint is standing with his gaze raised to the sky, arms open, holding his barrette in his left hand; he is dressed in a cassock, a lace border overhang and the aumusse. Base with scrolled sides adorned with leafy sticks and a heart on a diamond fishnet background. Bohemian, first half of the 18th century Height: 22.5 cm - Weight: 290 g John Nepomucene, born in 1340, was a canon in Prague Cathedral. Persecuted by King Wenceslas, he was thrown into the Moldau from the city bridge. Patron saint of Prague, he was canonized late in 1729.
