Thus improved, this work is one of the most beautiful monuments of 18th century scholarship. The king rewarded Dom Clément by appointing him member of the committee in charge of publishing the collection of charters, diplomas and acts relating to the history of France, and the Académie des Inscriptions admitted him, in 1785, to the number of its associate members.
In spite of its age, this work is still esteemed: it is indeed the only collection whose biographical part is so developed " (Saffroy).
