Peter III Fyodorovich was born Karl Peter Ulrich of Holstein-Gottorp on 21 February 1728 in Kiel and died on 6 July 1762 (17 July 1762 in the Gregorian calendar) in Ropcha. Tsar Emperor of Russia, Duke of Holstein-Gottorp since 1739, Peter III reigned for six months over the Russian Empire from 5 January to 9 July 1762 before being overthrown by his wife Catherine II. He was assassinated a few days later.
