Reflection 61 x 78 cm Richard Weisberg was born in Paris in 1958. He spent his youth between the Turbigo district and the 10th arrondissement. His paternal grandfather, Mordka, settles in the twenties in France, this land that he thought was welcoming, fleeing the difficulties of life in Eastern Europe. But he will be caught up by a tragic destiny, that of the holocaust, from which he will return. Richard is lulled then by memories of his ancestors, from the Schtetl to the pogrom, of the life of this people who animated all Eastern Europe. At the death of his grandfather,Richard receives the transmission of this lost life. Self-taught, he begins to fill his canvases with scenes from this life he never knew,as if his hand is guided by the memory of these communities of yesteryear to transmit the life that was happening there,in Eastern Europe. His technique, first with pencil, then with charcoal, is constantly evolving, translating with striking truth all these scenes of daily life in the Schtetl, from the tailor to the rabbi who advises his community, from the shoemaker to the water carrier etc... Faced with the diversity of scenes, black and white is not enough, so Richard tackles the particular technique of Pastel, and then discovers that of oil painting. His sepia tones and his earthy tones give the impression of being transported in these lost times. In front of this so particular expression begins then for Richard a community word of mouth of the "Artist of the Schtetls"; He is contacted at first by associations which are disturbed by this expression, then by international charities for finally the recognition of the artistic world. Many of his works can be found in private collections all over the world. From Tajan (Drouot) to Maitre Malval (Liladam Enchères), to the painters of the Marais, the salon des indépendants, the Rot
