GRANDE CUP WITH THE IMITATION OF A NAUTILE BY THE GIROUS ALPHONSE HOUSE
French Japanese work from the 19th century
It is composed of a bronze base decorated with prunus flowers which is prolonged by pheasants, butterflies and insects including bees. The cup, imitating the nautilus, is made of aventurine glass. One notes the play on the variety of patinas as well as on the combinations of techniques. Thus, it seems that some elements are made of lacquer. Artist's mark on the underside of the base (accidents, restorations, missing parts).
