PANEL
in oak carved in high relief representing
Adam and Eve gathering the fruit of the Tree
of the Science of Good and Evil, from
an engraving by Jost Aman of 1587 (fig.1).
In the centre, the tree takes the form of a
skeleton, surrounded by the tempting Serpent,
to signify that the disobedience of our
First Parents brought death among the
men; on either side, Adam and Eve are
naked, the latter handing the fruit to Adam.
Beautiful quality of execution in the details
of nature serving as a frame for the scene.
South Germany, late 16th / first quarter of the 17th century
Height: 57 cm - Width: 67 cm
