LA CALÈCHE À FALAISE Period Fauve, circa 1905 Oil on canvas Signed with the stamp of the signature at the bottom left 78 x 64,5 cm Certificate from Madame Fanny Guillon-Laffaille which dates the work of Raoul Dufy from the Fauve period: "This painting was indeed executed during the Fauve de Dufy period, which began at the end of 1904 and ended at the beginning of 1907" Fanny Guillon-Laffaille The year 1905 saw Raoul Dufy's rapid and total adherence to fauvism. In La calèche à Falaise, Dufy abandoned impressionist realism for a simplification of drawing and colour, the elements lose their materiality. The artist puts colours without mixing them on the canvas and uses large white areas that give a feeling of life, sincerity and modernism. This way of creating a new pictorial form has resisted all the pictorial movements of the 20th century without going out of fashion. Fauvism, gave birth to a new form of universal painting.
