Katarzyna Kobro is an important sculptor of the Polish avant-garde. Of Russian origin, she began her studies at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in 1917. Interrupted by the revolution, she moved to Smolenskk in 1920. She then became part of a young community of artists, built around Kazimir Malevitch (1878-1935). An artist, but also an art theorist, he was a fascinating figure still little known to the general public. "Sitting Woman - Akt kobiecy siedzaca", designed in the years 1925/1927, highlights Kobro's characteristic work on the lines and curves of sculpture. The brilliance of the smooth and polished bronze and the different planes of the stylized and geometrical body of this woman creates a play with the reflections of light. This play, this deconstructed femininity, is close to cubism, and creates a new approach to sculpture, which moves away from the representation of reality to focus on modernity
