CARLOS NADAL Intérieur
Spanish painter, Carlos Nadal was born in Paris. He has lived and worked in Barcelona, as well as intermittently in Brussels following his marriage to Flore Joris, a young Belgian artist. It is thanks to his father and his commercial activities that Carlos Nadal met and discovered the works of Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy and Maurice Utrillo. He will be particularly marked by Henri Matisse's fauvism, which he assimilates and transcribes in his paintings.
The work that we present to you today is a very beautiful tes - timony of his pictorial style. In this interior view, we find all the characteristics of Fauvism; the formal aspect is left aside here in favour of an in-depth chromatic research. In fact, the skyline and the sailboats are drawn in a few quick strokes and the forms in the foreground are delineated by sharp, marked contours. The colours, on the other hand, are vivid and bright, applied with ardour they free themselves from a formal representation of reality and respond to the artist's instinct. The work on the walls of the room as well as on the sky testifies to the virtuosity with which Carlos Nadal mixes and works with colours.
