A rare exceptionally large Rajasthani ivory figure of Krishna as a boy. 19th century Standing on a double lotus base with hands held forward, the naked body adorned with silver anklets, the piercing of the ears lined with gold, the hair and the braid at the back painted black, remains of red pigment to the lips, fingers and toe nails. The seven-year-old Krishna is worshipped as Shri Nathji by the members of the Vaishnava sect in Rajasthan and Gujarat, the main temple situated at Nathadwara. According to season and seasonal festivals the figure is dressed and adorned in different robes. Most probably also this figure was donned regularily with clothing and jewellery.
