GORDON (Charles George). Diary of General Gordon, Khartoum Headquarters. Second edition. Paris, Firmin-Didot, 1886, in-8, 454 pp. -1 f. in-8, plein bas. rouge, dos à nerfs, insolé (rel. mod.). With a frontispiece portrait and 2 off-text cards. With General Gordon's service record in Egypt and the capture of Khartoum by the dervishes in 1885. Charles-George Gordon, English general (1833-1885), named Gordon Pasha. He served in the Crimea and then the Chinese campaign in 1860. In 1874, Gordon entered the service of Egypt and was appointed governor of Sudan. In 1879, he resigned in 1879 following difficulties with the new Khedive. It was not until 1884 that he returned to Egypt to save Khartoum, which was besieged by the Mahdi's troops. He entered the city alone but could only prolong his resistance. The following year, Khartoum fell into the hands of the Dervishes and Gordon was massacred.
