Born in Lisbon in 1970, Fernando Guerra studied architecture at the Universidad Lusiada de Lisboa, from which he graduated in 1993, before working for five years in an architecture firm in Macau.
He develops a new way of photographing and showing architecture.
22 years ago he opened his studio with his brother, FG+SG, becoming the main actors in the diffusion of Portuguese contemporary architecture over the last 22 years.Although he studied architecture, Fernando Guerra became an architectural photographer.
His gaze is divided between two distinct ways of conceiving the world, so that he is in a privileged position to embody this metamorphosis in the field of photography, which will lead him to the creation of images that are also, in part, architectural.
Fernando Guerra's work is regularly published in Portugal and internationally, in magazines such as Casabella, Wallpaper*, Dwell, Icon, Domus, A + U and many other titles. FG+SG collaborates with various Portuguese architects, including Álvaro Siza, Carlos Castanheira, Manuel Mateus, Manuel Graça Dias, Gonçalo Byrne, ARX Portugal, João Luís Carrilho da Graça, Promontorio Arquitectos, and foreign architects, including Marcio Kogan, Isay Weifeld, Arthur Casas, Zaha Hadid, Pei Cobb Freed & Partners.
In 2012, he was named "Canon Explorer", becoming Canon Europe's ambassador for architectural photography.
The MoMA in New York acquired six of Fernando Guerra's works in 2015 for its permanent collection. His work is now part of many private and public collections.
