French school of the 18th century. Portrait of the Duchess of Longueville (1619-1679), sister of the Grand Condé, as an abbess wearing an episcopal crosier. Oil on canvas. Gilded wooden frame. H. 27 x W. 20.5 cm. History Anne-Geneviève de Bourbon-Condé is represented here as an abbess with royal blood characterized by her ermine coat. In 1663, she became close to the Carmelites, whose white hood she wears here and worked in the defence of the embalmed Jansenist bishops, hence the presence of rats at her feet.
