Memoirs to be used to write the history of the French Navy First issue (only published). Caen, Typographie de Pagny, 1834. In-8, green percaline, mute spine (contemporary binding). Author's copy, with autograph annotations. First edition, illustrated with 2 engraved plates and 4 folding tables out of text. This book is devoted to the naval combat of 13 Prairial year 2 (June 1st 1794), which opposed, off Ushant, the French fleet commanded by Rear Admiral Villaret de Joyeuse to that of Admiral Howe. Villaret stood up to the enemy, lost 8 ships but ensured the entry into Brest of a convoy of 350 ships from America which was to save France from famine.
