ROUSSEAU, Jean-Jacques Collection of coloured plants, to be used for the intelligence of elementary letters on botany [...]. Paris Poinçot 1789 8vo: 44 pp.; 38 + 6 pl. on laid paper (uncut copy). Contemp. paper covers (missing spine). Very rare collection, complete in itself, of 44 nicely engraved hand-coloured botanical plates by Aubry comprising the last and 38th volume of the "Oeuvres complètes" of Rousseau publ. by Poinçot in 1788-1793. The engravings, inserted in the text, are intended to illustrate the thirty-two elementary letters on botany as well as the dictionary of terms of use in botany. In the letters we find the name (in French) and a description of the different flowers and plants represented. Plates I to XXXVIII illustrate the letters and plates I to VI are part of the dictionary of botanical terms. Ref Tchemerzine X:68 (Complete works). - Not in Nissen, Pritzel.
