Contemp. quarter brown cloth (faded, corners rubbed and bumped), flat spines (joints of last vol. splitting). Extensive sequence of the multi-volume work on botany, finished in 1860, with beautifully coloured steel engravings heightened with Arabic gum depicting vegetables, fruits, useful plants, trees, etc., and with the use of a variety of materials. Our set contains 207 coloured engr. pl. (irregular numbering, jumping over several numbers, with some bis-numbers): 1) Volume I (part one) comprising "the natural families of ranunculaceae, dileniaceae, magnoliaceae, etc."; 2) Introduction (part one).
