1806. BOOK: (BIBLIOPHILIA-TYPOGRAPHY). BODONI, GIAMBATISTA: ORATIO DOMINICA IN CLV LINGUAS VERSO ET EXOTICIS CHARACTERIBUS PLERUMQUE EXPRESSA. Parma: Typis Bodonianis, 1806. Folio mayor. 3 h.+ XIX p.+ [5 p.]+ XIX pages+ [5 p.]+ 20 p.+ [2 p.]+ CCXLVIII p.+ 1 h. (printer's colophon, blank back). Greek, Roman and exotic typefaces (Hebrew, Arabic, Chinese, etc.) Texts and specimens framed by a fivefold fillet wheel. Some shadow of foxing. Contemporary binding (first third of the 19th century) signed 'Bound by W. M' Queen NY', in full brown leather with a wide golden wheel with a floral motif and others in dry, framing the planes with a double frame, flat ribs and a set of golden irons inside compartments. Cuts painted to match the wrought-iron guard paper. Exlibris and private library label glued on the back side. ORIGINAL EDITION. The best and most beautiful type specimen book of all time. Bodoni used 97 different typefaces, some from rare countries, to print the most common prayer among Christians, the Lord's Prayer. Produced at the expense of Prince Eugene de Beauharnais, Viceroy of Italy. After the dedication to this prince, follows Bodoni's preface to the reader, in French, Italian and Latin. The exotic alphabets are 97 and the others are printed in Latin characters, 23 of them in italics and the others in different sizes. A superb example. Essential in a library with a high bibliophilia.
