JOANNIS OF SAXONIA COMMENTARY. Venice: Melchior Sessa and Pedro de Ravanis, 1521. 8th major. Gothic typography. Printer's mark engraved on wood on the cover. Astrological figures inside text. 63 pages. (the folio 47 numbered by mistake 48), 1 h. white. Sign. a-h8. Modern parchment encyclopaedia. Restorations in the lower right margin affecting the typeface box. Numerous handwritten marginal notes from the 16th century, very interesting. At the end, a sheet contains handwritten annotations from the 16th century, on the Calendar and Astrology. Abu al-Saqr Abd al-Aziz Ibn Uthman Ibn Ali al-Qabisi l-Mawsili al-Hashimi, generally known as Al-Qabisi and latinized Alchabitius, was an astronomer, astrologer and mathematician originally from Iraq, who moved to Aleppo where he worked for his Emir, Prince Sayf al-Dawala. We have received at least 200 manuscripts translated into Latin and 25 into Arabic, and about 12 printed Latin editions illustrated between 1473 and 1521. During the 12th century it was translated into brass by Johannes Hispaliensis.
