1517. BOOK: (GOTHIC-CHRONIC). COMIE[N]ÇA LA CHRONICA DES SERENISSIMO REY DON JUAN EL SEGUNDO DESTE NOMBRE. Logroño: by Arnao Guillen de Brocar, 1517 (year in colophon, in red ink). Minor page. Text in gothic typography in two inks and two columns. 26 h. + CCLIIII fol. (actually 255, because fol.V, repeats foliation). Straight from B8, full-page engraving of 'King Don Juan II' and on both sides portraits of Dona Maria, Don Enrique, Dona Catalina, Dona Leonor, Dona Ysabel, Don Alonso, Dona Ysabel, Fray Vicente, surrounded by a wooden border, all names in red ink. The first page of text, with a large capital letter 'G', with the king sitting on his throne. The printer's mark engraved on the wood in the colophon. The cover and page 10 (symbol +10) on the back of the Crucifixion are facsimiles. The last page has been marginally restored without affecting the text and has a handwritten annotation of the period on the recto of the page. Enc. signed by ARIAS in full skin with dry irons in both planes, of Renaissance style, nerves, golden cuts. Good copy. FIRST EDITION OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CHRONICLE PUBLISHED IN SPAIN DURING THE 16TH CENTURY. This is the most beautiful book to come out of Brocar's presses in Logroño, and it was commissioned by Emperor Charles V. Arnao Guillén de Brocar was a French printer who was active from 1490 to 1523. The complete copies of this work are scarce and from the great number of copies that Martín Abad has meticulously described of public libraries, we can see that complete copies are scarce, and one like the one we present is a great piece for a bibliophile library. Save 3117. Heredia 3131, mentions that the copy Salvá had the cover and the last page cut and traced. Palau 64966. Norton 427. Martín Abad 527.
