ALIX AYMÉ
Japanese art par excellence, Alix Aymé discovered the technique of lacquerware during his trip to Japan in 1928. Fascinated by lacquer decorations, she allows the learning but also the revival of this ancestral technique thanks to the courses she gives at the School of Fine Arts of Indochina upon her return from her trip. Jeune femme aux marguerites testifies to the artist's know-how. If she masters this medium perfectly, she manages to breathe new life into it. Her western training adds to this lacquer a part of originality. The black ring encloses the different shades while isolating the soft face of the young woman. The brushed background and the posture of the character reinforce the idea of icon while the daisies contribute to the candid side. Operating a perfect syncretism between two cultures, Jeune femme aux marguerites underlines Alix Aymé's talent as well as her skill.
