This watch belonged to Peter Arundell (8 November 1933-16 June 2009), a racing driver from Ilford, who raced in Formula One for the Lotus team. After winning the British Formula Junior Championship in 1962 and 1963, he marked his arrival in the Formula One World Championship in 1964 with two podium finishes in his first two races; a record for consecutive podium finishes for a debut driver. The record was held by Arundell until 2007, when it was beaten by Lewis Hamilton. He raced in 13 World Championship Grands Prix for Lotus between 1964 and 1966, and was regarded as a real talent and a great supporting driver for World Champion Jim Clark. Arundell sustained multiple injuries, including two broken legs, when thrown from his car in an F2 race in 1964. He was unable to race for the rest of that season, and on his return to F1, failed to regain his earlier form. He retired from racing in 1966.
