Cast iron with a splendid appearance. Bernard de Montfaucon (c.1655-1741) is a French Benedictine monk. He is one of the scholars of the congregation of Saint-Maur. He founded archaeology as a science by basing history not only on texts, but also on monuments and vestiges of the past. He is the author of a volume of numismatics in his Antiquity explained and represented in figures (in 10 volumes, 1719).
