Study for the illustration of the novel by Roland Dorgeles, les Croix de Bois, published in 1921.
During the 1914-1918 war, André Dunoyer de Segonzac directed the artist-camouflage workshop in Amiens and then in Noyon. He thus experienced the daily life of the soldiers involved in this conflict and was able to transcribe it in a very faithful manner, without seeking pathos.
