A renowned portrait painter, Dubois received numerous public commissions and exhibited oil busts and portraits exclusively for ten years, beginning in 1876. He produced portraits of famous people such as Cabanel, the Duke of Aumale and Saint-Saëns. His work is also marked by portraits of children, from his first exhibition in 1857 to the Universal Exhibition of 1900. He also presented a bronze depicting a child Saint John the Baptist in 1861 and a plaster bust of a child in 1875.
