With woodcut printer's mark at the end, 8-line blue initial with rich red penwork over the column, numerous red and blue Lombards, partly with penwork, Alinea in red and blue as well as continuous rubrication. Rich blind-tooled pigskin around 1550 (spine with small cut marks, otherwise only minimal flaws or blemishes in the cover, somewhat stained, scraped and bumped) over chamfered wooden covers (without the clasps). Early incunabulum edition of the Sentences, the main work from the pen of the scholastic theologian Petrus Lombardus (1095-1160), who directed the cathedral school of Notre Dame in Paris and worked as bishop of Paris. - Hain-Copinger 10194th - GW 32480th - Goff P-490th - Proctor 7660th Pellechet 9177th - Petrus Lombardus was praised as "Magister sententiarum" because he formulated numerous doctrines and wisdoms of life which he put down in writing to strengthen the faith. "The work, even if challenged in individual questions, achieved great prestige and was often commented on, due to the clarity and persuasiveness of its presentation and the prudent evaluation of the sources, among which for the first time in the scholasticism of John of Damascus is found" (Tusculum). - Our edition is the eighth incunabula edition of the important aphorisms, but it is the first to contain the summaries, the "Conclusiones" of the Dutch theologian Heinrich von Gorkum (latinized Henricus de Gorinchem, 1378-1431). - The two white sheets Q6 and S6 are missing, the third white one is present (t8 with a pretty watermark ox head). Only a few small worm traces in the white margin (without loss of text), hardly damp-edged or browned, title with hs. Inscripti
