Mask Dan
Ivory Coast / Liberia
Wood
H.: 21 cm.
Male mask of ovoid shape. Under the upper forehead, the large circular orbits are hollowed out.
The face shows a strong relief at the level of the nose and the representation of the prognathic mouth with fleshy lips, whose corners are lowered. An engraved frieze decorates the forehead.
This object is worn by a runner during clashes that structure social life between clans and villages.
Late, authentic object. Circa 1940-1950.
