Fang style mask
Gabon
Calabash, pigments, fabric threads
H.: 29 cm.
Small lacks at the edge
Sleek mask with convex ovoid face enhanced with kaolin. The face is slightly hollowed out in a cordiform manner under the eyebrow arch, joining at its centre to form the long, fine, straight nose. The eyes, small and slit, are framed at the outer commissures by fine arrowhead scars. The cheeks are also decorated with scarification marks. At the end of the composition, the delicate little mouth is half-opened.
Non-tribal artistic creation object (the sculpture expressing itself beyond the classical canons of the socio-cultural group).
