Set of two Abron combs (Akan subgroup)
Ghana / Ivory Coast
Wood, brass
H.: 23.5 cm.
- A six-toothed comb with a handle decorated with geometric motifs and surmounted by a brass rooster figure recognisable by its crest.
- Comb with eight teeth and a sinuous trapezoidal handle decorated with fine linear engravings, pierced with three circular holes and surmounted by an anthropomorphic brass statuette with fine limbs and an inordinately long beard.
The Abrons are famous for their small bronze statuettes. The one on the comb is similar to those used to weigh gold.
