Court dwarf Edo horseman figure Kingdom of Benin (Nigeria) Brass H.: 27 cm. Equestrian statue showing a male figure in armour carrying a spear, a shield and a headdress. It rests on a pedestal with embossed engraved motifs. Between the end of the 15th and the beginning of the 17th century, the warlords of Benin led campaigns aimed at establishing Benin's hegemony over a large part of south-western Nigeria. Numerous armed warriors were mobilized. Representative object of the art of lost wax casting which was very widespread in Benin.
