Provenance: ancient collection of his Excellency the French ambassador Eirik Labonne (1888-1967), sent on a mission to Russia from 1917 to 1919, then from 1925 to 1928 and finally in 1940. This preparatory drawing is quoted in the autograph letter attached to the still life of Marie Mela Muter that we present (n°40). The artist specifies: "I have seen the silhouette again in watercolor and find it better than I thought. I would be very happy to finish it a little and send it to you with the other painting".
