Jaime Antonio COLSON (Dominicans,1901-1975) Conversation on the stairs, study, 1932. Ink, pencil and paint on paper. H. 24.5 L. 33.5 cm (at sight, the leaf partially cut out). JOINT: Bellapart Museum catalogue "JAIME COLSON, Pinturas, Peintures, Paintings", Palette Publications. Jaime Colson is probably the greatest painter of the Dominican Republic and one of the most important artists of Latin America. In 1918 he left his country to study painting in Spain. Befriended by the greatest Mexican painters: Rivera, Siqueiros and Orozco his painting navigates between neoclassicism, cubism and surrealism. Dating from 1932, this drawing reminds us of the period of Picasso's return to order, like Chirico's metaphysical paintings.
