Vladimir Ilyich GORSKY (Born in 1923 in Kostroma, Russia) Large oil on canvas representing the Port of Cheboksary in Russia Size: 100 x 140 cm Signed lower left. Probably dated 1959 on the back of the painting. On the back of the canvas: Label glued on stretcher, countersigned, titled, dated and stamped (illegible). A landscape painter, Vladimir Gorsky attended the Moscow School of Fine Arts and then, from 1945 to 1951, the Surikov Institute of Fine Arts. His first group exhibition dates back to 1951 and subsequently exhibited abroad. He unveiled his works in a solo exhibition in 1980 in Moscow and won the Prize of the Russian Federation. An undisputed master of landscape and subject composition, Gorsky's paintings are distinguished by a recognisable sensitivity to the use of colour and, above all, light. The works of our painter are in several art museums in Russia, especially in Magnitogorsk and Tarusa and also in the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) as well as in private collections abroad.
