François DÉCORCHEMONT (1880-1971) Large plate or slab in blue glass paste, decorated with white flowers and leaves, set in a moulded mahogany frame forming a night light illuminated at the back by two bulbs. Conches-en-Ouche, between 1932 and 1939. Dimensions : Plate : Height : 52,4 cm ; Width : 25 cm ; Thickness : between 1,2 and 1,4 cm. Plate with frame: Height: 55 cm; Width: 35 cm; Depth: 26 cm Night light in perfect working order with period lighting system. The plaque is not signed, but a certificate from his grandson, Monsieur Antoine Leperlier, dated November 22, 2019, authenticates it as being executed in his grandfather's hand. At the very beginning of the 1930s, François Décorchemont became interested in stained glass and used coloured glass paste in the mass to execute each piece; there is no painting. His first stained-glass window depicts a bowl filled with fruit that he exhibited at the Salon des Décorchemont in 1933 and which was very much noticed. Our piece is a very rare testimony to the research, colour trials, which have come down to us, that Décorchement did for the creation of stained-glass windows in the 1930's because he often kept them for himself or, when he was satisfied, as is the case here, he would entrust them to a skilled carpenter in the village so that he could make a wooden frame to make a unique creation. At the present time we know of no other plate of this type._ Bibliography : Ayroles Véronique, François Décorchemont. Maître de la pâte de verre 1880-1971, Norma Editions, 2006.
