Frankfurt School, 17th century Crayfish, lemons and flower vase on an entablature Oil on canvas Crayfishes, lemon and flowers on a table, oil on canvas, School of Frankfurt, 17th C. 61 x 76 cm (24,02 x 29,92 in.) Provenance : Anonymous sale ; New York, Sotheby's, April 7, 1989, n° 77 (as French School of the 17th century) ; At David Koetser's, Zürich, 1989-90, No. 22 in the catalogue (as J. van Winghen); Anonymous sale; Paris, Ader, Picard, Tajan, December 5, 1990, No. 30 (as J. van Winghen); Acquired at this sale by the present owner; Private collection of the Doubs Comment: We thank Mr. Cyrille Froissart for having kindly indicated that the vase containing the bouquet of roses is a model of majolica from Faenza produced around 1580-1600. The same decoration with the cherub banding its bow was repeated on earthenware plates from Haarlem produced a few years later, around 1620-1640.
