BRONZE OSIRIS Egypt, Saite period, XXVIth dynasty Statuette of the mummiform god, standing, holding the scepter (heqa) and the flagellum (nekhekh). He wears a false beard and the atef crown, made of the white mitre of Upper Egypt (hedjet) edged with two ostrich feathers. Hieroglyphic inscriptions engraved on the base: "Osiris gives life to Netch, son of Pen..." Beautiful red patina. Murdered by his brother Seth, he became god of the dead and the resurrection in the underworld where he presided over the judgment of dead souls.
