Protome of a lion with legs folded under a tubular body and mane engraved with striations.
Traces of turquoise glaze.

A Neo-Elamite faience lion protome, 8th-7th century B.C.
These zoomorphic earthenware protomes, several of which were discovered at the end of the 19th century in Susa near the temple of Shutruk-Nahunte II by R.de Mecquenem, were decorative knobs crowning the fixing pegs for wall tiles.
