Italian School (late 17th century) Saint Anthony with the Christ child in extensive landscape Oil on copper laid down to panel 70 x 90cm (27½ x 35¼ in.)
The Vision of Saint Anthony has been depicted by artists throughout art history. This motif and composition may have been inspired by the spectacular work, The Vision of Saint Anthony of Padua painted in 1656 by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, commissioned by the chapter of Seville Cathedral as the altarpiece for its chapel of Saint Anthony of Padua.
