Claude René César, Marquis de Courtarvel de Pezé (1761-1849)
Honorary Gentleman of the King's House. On 23 December 1823, Courtarvel entered the House of Peers. He was a member of
several important commissions, rapporteur in 1824 of a bill dealing with extraordinary loans and taxation,
etc., and, after the Glorious Three, did not refuse the oath to the new government. He thus remained in the House of Peers for
throughout the reign of Louis-Philippe, including a speech against the bill on secondary education on 27 April 1844.
Surprisingly enough, he still wears his Order of Saint Louis with the fleurs-de-lis (while the lilies are removed from the
insignia from 1830 onwards)
