Collection of six small pieces
for piano, plus three unpublished pieces.
The title page does not bear the definitive title, adopted at the time of publication by Alphonse Leduc in 1946; it is written as follows: "5 Petites Pièces de style léger (moyenne difficulté). (Intermèdes radiophoniques)", with the bracketed words having been crossed out in pencil; follows the numbered list of the five pieces (in a different order from the definitive one), to which
will be added the Homage to Bach. Originally,
these pieces were conceived as radio interludes or background music, while Dutilleux was in charge of
the sound
illustration department
at the Radiodiffusion française.
The manuscript consists of 5 double leaves of 24-line Durand paper, plus 2 double leaves of 20-line paper, mainly in black ink; it was used for the engraving of the edition, and includes (the number in Roman numerals in square brackets is the
definitive number of the collection):
